Bar Taperia Loli – Alcossebra, Spain

My favourite restaurant in Alcossebra this trip was Loli’s which is a little restaurant on the port. It was really busy in there and there was a real buzz to the place the night we went. The tables were mostly full and it smelt mouth wateringly good.

It is owned by a German man and a Spanish women so they specialise in both German and Spanish dishes.

We decided on the hot stone steak, a jacket potato, fries and a mixed salad to share.

The mixed salad in Alcossebre always seems to come with tuna on top, which can be nice if you are having a very light meal, but can be extra filling if you are already having quite a big meal.

The steak came out raw with hot stones on the side so we could cook them ourselves. I loved the fun of cooking it all and also it meant that we could eat the steak however we liked. I like mine pretty rare but if you wanted it well done, you just need to leave it on the stone for a little longer.Β They gave us very good cuts of meat that were not chewy at all.

It sounds odd but the fun of “playing with food” made the meal even more enjoyable.

This was my favourite meal of the trip! Fun, lively, and good quality food.


Los Bodegueros – Old Town, Ibiza, Spain

The Old Town in Ibiza is beautifully quaint and rich in history. The town is built in and around the castle walls. All the streets are made of cobblestones and the little passages that are full of shops and restaurants are great to explore.

We went to Los Bodegueros just on the outskirts of the Old Town because it was easy for us to leave our suitcases here before we went to the airport and then grab a cab from the main road.

There were four of us and we ordered lots of different tapas plates as we were about to get a flight home back to London and it would be ages until we would have a meal again.

The Prawns Pil Pil came still bubbling away in the little plate. They weren’t overcooked though even though they seems to still be cooking away in the plate.

The tapas platter we chose came with a potato and seafood salad, chorizo sausages, calamari and seafood croquettes. We of course also ordered patatas bravas and padron peppers because what is tapas without these two dishes?

And finally we also ordered the ham platter which came with a selection of different ham slices, bread and the tomato sauce to spread onto the bread slices.

Everything was absolutely delicious (I genuinely cannot fault anything), the service was great, and we were so glad they were open and serving food even though it was only 5pm.

A fabulous meal to end our amazing trip to Ibiza.

Sunset Ashram – Cala Comte, Ibiza, Spain

I have to be honest, the idea of Ibiza never appealed to me. In my mind, Ibiza was very different to how I experienced it.

I thought that I needed to go once to see what it was all about and I was surprised at how beautiful the island actually is, how good the food is and how much fun I had.

One place I found particularly beautiful is Cala Comte, a secluded beach with the clearest water. When I swam in the sea I could see schools of large fish swimming around me and it was amazing.

There are only two restaurants in this part of the island and we decided to go one of the restaurants called Sunset Ashram for dinner.





We sat down, ordered our drinks and food and then witnessed the most beautiful sunset ever! It was absolutely stunning and we all sat facing it as the sun went down. Once the sun fully set and it went down below the ocean ahead of us, the whole beach burst into applause, wolf whistles and cheering. It was quite a heart warming moment to be a part of to be honest.

The food was really well cooked and presented – I just wish there was a bit more of it because it was so delicious! It was a little pricier than the normal restaurant in Spain but it was worth it for the beach, sunset, and views.

I had the tuna steak which was cooked to perfection. Perfectly seared on the outside and pink on the inside with some gorgeous flavours that didn’t take away from the natural flavours of the fish.

We stayed well into the evening and shared a dessert platter between us all. It was very relaxed and we were not rushed out at all.

Bambu – Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

If you are looking for an Indonesian restaurant in Bali that has high quality service, food and wine with a calming and relaxed but beautiful atmosphere to treat yourself for an evening – then look no further than Bambu onΒ Jl. Petitenget in Seminyak.

Although it is quite a high end restaurant, it is still very authentic. There are gorgeous wood carvings and the set up is similar to that of a Balinese home or villa. The waitresses and waiters wear Balinese style uniforms and the menu is full of very traditional style foods.

We started with some soft shell crab to share which was so crisp on the outside and soft and meaty on the inside. Surrounded by sweet chilli sauce to dip in.

Jack ordered the Tuna Steak for his main and it was cooked perfectly seared on the outside and still very pink on the inside. I ordered the slow cooked duck curry and the sauce was full of punchy flavours and spices. Our food came with rice on the side.

For dessert we shared the pandan pancakes and the fried banana with coconut ice cream. It was all surprisingly light and such a refreshing way to end the meal.

Warung Sobat – Jalan Batu Belig, Bali, Indonesia

Warung Sobat is one of my favourite no-frills restaurants in Bali. It has a relaxed atmosphere, price and menu. With a mixture of local Indonesian and Western dishes, everyone will be able to find something that they fancy.

It is quite an authentic little spot and very well known.

I had the nasi campur, which when translated means mixed rice. It is a traditional dish that is essentially rice with lots of different little things to accompany it. This one came with satay, stir fried vegetables, chilli sauce, fried tofu, fried chicken, and a potato cake. It was absolutely lush and I love it when there are lots of different little bits to taste. Jack had the chicken curry which came with some vegetables and rice and we drank Bintang (the famous Indonesian beer).

It was tasty, cheap and cheerful!

SSI Open Water Diving Course at Manta Dive – Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

I will always have a soft spot for Indonesia. It was my home for 16 years and I absolutely adore it. The culture, the food, the weather, the beaches.

Last year I finally decided to get my Open Water Diving License so we went to Gili Trawangan to do this. I hadn’t been to the island in about 5 years and so much had changed since I was here last and it was not the quiet, untouched island that it used to be. It was a lot more built up with more hotels, more bars, more everything – but the beaches were still beautiful.

I was recommended Manta Dive by a friend of mine and so I called them up and booked to stay in their hotel as well as take the Open Water Diver Course.

Our room was a little bungalow right by the hotel swimming pool and it was lush.

The open water diving course was great. The diving community is really close out there and they bring you into it throughout the course of the week. You feel straight away like you are a part of it.

Our instructor Eve has unfortunately now moved from Gili T. I say “unfortunately” because she was genuinely an amazing instructor and we really learned so much from her. She is so passionate about the ocean and it made us very interested in everything she was explaining to us.

We saw sea turtles, reef sharks (white and black tips), octopus, star fish, clown fish, nudi branch, and lots of other beautiful and colourful sea creatures and coral.

If you are ever considering learning to dive and you happen to have a holiday in Indonesia, I definitely recommend learning at Manta Dive in Gili Trawangan. It might not be the ultimate best diving in the world but you do see a lot in the ocean, the instructors and divers are an awesome group of people, and the hotel lush! A great place to learn.



Freak Scene – Farringdon, London, UK

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I booked a table at Freak Scene. There weren’t many photos online of the food at the time and not many people had been yet as it had just opened up so I couldn’t find much to read about it online.

We went in the beginning of August because, although we hadn’t heard much about the place, we had read up on Scott Hallsworth and his food sounded great!

It was BYOB so we got a bottle of wine from a wine shop around the corner and got our table.

Everything on the menu looked amazing but luckily its more of a tapas-type fusion food restaurant, so we could order a few things to share – with some help and guidance from the Freak Scene Team.

Everything was exceptionally good. I would have to say my favourite was the duck curry. Jack’s favourite was the crab and avocado wonton bomb. There is something on the menu for everyone to enjoy with something a bit different or special about it.

After dinner we met Scott and his team and stayed for a few more drinks. It was such a good night – I genuinely recommend going and I really hope they get a permanent spot there!
