After a long 3 hour walk around the historical Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, Julia, Mike, my Mum and I decided we wanted a good Paella, so after researching the best Paella spots in Barcelona (not touristy, not a chain, not too La-Di-Da) we found a gorgeously rustic, local spot for our lunch – Restaurante Cheriff.
We ordered some pan con tomat and some Iberica ham to nibble on while we waited for our main, which we washed down with a cold Spanish white wine. The bread was gorgeously crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, which was perfect and the ham had so much earthy flavour to it.
We decided on the squid ink paella, which was so creamy and came with mussels, and the mixed seafood paella which was a little more zesty and literally came with every seafood you could ask for.
The food, the restaurant itself and the service were all excellent! I will definitely go back again and I definitely recommend if you are looking for a good paella spot.
Yes, I have written about Vinitus before! Yes, it is the same one! But it is so good, that is deserves another write up! I recently went to Barcelona with my Mum and she had never been to Barcelona before so obviously I had to take her to one of my favourite tapas restaurants there.
We sat at the bar – which is my favourite seat because you get to watch the chefs cooking away and you can point at which dish you want behind the counter. We ordered some Sangria and look around the counter to see what we felt like eating.
They have a seafood counter with fresh seafood that they bring in everyday and so we ordered lots of it! We had baby calamari, clams and prawns which were all gorgeous. We also ordered padron peppers which are my absolute favourite and some seafood salad.
It is genuinely one of my favourite tapas spots and it is so well priced! Definitely worth a visit!
To end our day of exploring Bellagio – we ended up at Ristorante Bilacus for dinner. Definitely make a reservation for the terrace if you are going here. We didn’t make a reservation but we were very lucky and someone didn’t turn up for their table (which had the most stunning view!) so we were able to sit outside on the terrace.
We started with a trio of seafood platter which had a fish pate, octopus salad and prawn cocktail and a meat platter which had a mixture of ham, salami and thinly sliced roast pork. Both were delicious!
For our mains we shared a Grilled King Prawns, a Prawn Linguine (needed a pasta dish as well but wanted seafood) and a side salad. It was all perfection and I am currently drooling as I write this and think back about the flavours.
The service were great! There were the perfect amount of attentive but still left us to enjoy ourselves without pushing us to order or pay the bill quickly.
We shared the Panna Cotta for dessert – which was refreshing and light after all that food.
It was honestly one of the most enjoyable dinners – everything from the service, the atmosphere, the food. I definitely recommend making a booking if you are in Lake Como.
Jack and I recently went to Alcossenbra to stay at his Aunt and Uncle’s house for a long weekend away. On our first night we went with his Auntie Karen for dinner at L’illa which is right on the port and has such a chilled out, laid back vibe.
We ordered the house white which was perfect! Crisp, clean cut and light.
As we were deciding on food they brought out hot, fresh, lightly toast bread, fresh tomatoes, fresh garlic, olive oil and salt and pepper and we made our own pan con tomat. You rub the garlic on the bread, rub the tomato on the bread, a sprinkle of olive oil and salt and pepper and it was absolutely gorgeously fresh! I absolutely love this idea of the make your own pan con tomat and definitely using this for a dinner party!
We ordered the mejillones a la marinera to share for a starter and for mains I got the cod, Jack the lamb and Karen the steak and we shared a mixed house salad as well.
El National is a stunning restaurant with a gorgeous interior. They call themselves Barcelona’s Gastronomic Experience with four different culinary areas (a meat restaurant, a seafood restaurant, a tapas restaurant and a brasserie) and four different bars (specialising in beer, wine, cava and cocktails).
On our recent weekend away, Renata and I went to El National and we chose La Llotja – the seafood restaurant.
There is an area of the restaurant that had all the fresh seafood on ice that you are able to pick and choose from. It is all fresh from the fisherman every morning and when it runs out it runs out so you need to get there at a decent hour to get the good stuff.
We learned this the hard way, as we tried to do dinner the Spanish way and ended up arriving at 10:30pm and eating at 11pm so a couple of the seafood bits that we did want to try had disappeared into other people’s bellies.
We ended up choosing the Pan Con Tomat, a dish with Mediterranean and Atlantic oysters, tuna tartare and scallop ceviche and some fresh prawns along with a gorgeously clean cut white wine to go with it all.
A gorgeous place, amazing service, up beat vibe and such good food. Must try even if you just come for a drink!
